The Iowa Gambling Prevention and Treatment Program (IGTP) is a program of the Iowa Department of Public Health with the purpose to ensure the well being and safety of Iowans by addressing the dangers of problem gambling and treatment for problem gamblers and their concerned persons. The mission of the IGTP is to minimize the risks and harms associated with problem gambling.
The Socioeconomic Impact of Gambling
On
Under 2004 Iowa Acts, House File 2302, section 61, the Iowa Legislative Council issued a request for proposal
(
RFP) for the purpose of commissioning a study on the socioeconomic impact of gambling on Iowans. This proposal is submitted on behalf of Goss & Associates, Economic Solutions in response to that RFP. The discussion below outlines the research methods and data sources that we intend to use to meet the requirements listed in the RFP, as well as other specific issues we will address with Gambling in Iowa.

Last fall, citing abuse of tribal funds and secretive council operations, a group of Sac and Fox, commonly known as Meskwaki, tribal members signed petitions to recall the Tribe's elected council, headed by chairman A. Walker Jr. The elected council initially accepted the petitions, but later rejected them and refused the recall election, saying they felt tribal members had been coerced into signing.
*****
Petitioning members asked the BIA for assistance, but the agency said they didn't interfere with tribal disputes. So the members met again to vote "no confidence" in the council, citing a morality clause in the tribal constitution. Hereditary Chief Charles Old Bear appointed a new council, which occupied the tribal center and took over government operations on March 26.
